Known in her time as a painstaking researcher, Agnes Strickland drew from letters, state papers, and private documents to vividly illustrate the life of Elizabeth I, complete with court and domestic intrigue, diplomatic maneuvers, and parliamentary politics. Originally part of Miss Strickland’s twelve-volume 1840-1848 series The Lives of the Queens of England, this edition has been abridged by Ida Ashworth Taylor.
