In this 1921 volume, Mais helps readers sort through the glut of fiction in the modern world—reminding them that good fiction does exist. His survey of world literature finds much to admire in classic and contemporary fiction, and points to Tom Jones, Wuthering Heights, the works of Boswell, Pepys, Aldous Huxley, E. M. Forster, Montaigne, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, and others.
